An apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme. Through their apprenticeship, apprentices gain the technical knowledge, practical experience and wider skills they need for their immediate job and future career. The apprentice gains this through a wide mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the- job training and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment.
Apprentices will work alongside qualified and experienced staff to gain the confidence and work skills essential to support the quality of services demanded throughout the Trust, and build apprentices’ work experience to develop their existing skills and give them opportunities for further career enhancement.
Apprenticeships are an exemplary way of attracting and recruiting local and national talent, and providing the educational framework to support staff development and career pathways.

Public sector bodies with 250 or more staff in England have a target to employ an average of at least 2.3% of their staff as a new apprentice over the period 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2021.
The Trust provides a yearly return to the Department for Education. This includes a statement of commitment to apprenticeships to not only achieve the public sector target but also a commitment to the development and retention of staff.
