Southport hospital opens its doors for Allied Health Professionals career event

2:26 pm  //  9th March 2023

SOUTHPORT and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is encouraging school pupils, college and university students who are considering their future career choices, and anyone thinking about a career change to come along to their Allied Health Professions (AHPs) careers insight event later this month.

The event will take place at the Spinal Gym on the Ground Floor at Southport and Formby District General Hospital, between 4-6pm on Wednesday, March 22.

AHPs cover 14 different roles, seven of which are employed at the Trust and will be highlighted on the day including:

  • Dietitians
  • Occupational therapists
  • Operating department practitioners
  • Orthoptists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Radiographers
  • Speech and language therapists

At the event, attendees will get the chance to meet people who work in these roles and learn about the benefits of working for the NHS.

They’ll also be able to find out which college and university course choices are required for each profession, as well as the different career routes available such as apprenticeships.

Meg Langley, Associate Director of Nursing and AHPs for Medicine and Emergency Care at the Trust, said: “We’re looking forward to meeting people of all ages who want to learn more about the brilliant range of roles that fall under the Allied Health Professions umbrella.

“There will be opportunity to speak to our supporting functions for example education/apprenticeship, preceptorship and volunteering provisions at the Trust.

“These roles, in their different ways, care for, rehabilitate and support patients to lead as full a life as possible, and provide a rewarding and fulfilling career where you can make a difference.

“We look forward to meeting and inspiring our future workforce at the event. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions.’’

Booking is not necessary, and attendees are welcome to turn up on the evening.
