A phlebotomist collects blood from patients who require diagnostic tests on their blood. This requires a skilled procedure to take blood from a vein in the patients arm by using a fine needle and special collection tubes.
The service is for clients aged 12 years and above. Please visit the Children’s section for information on blood collection for the under 12s.
- Southport and Formby District General Hospital. The phlebotomy clinic runs on Monday to Friday from the Outpatients department 9am-4pm. Southport hospital cannot see patients who present with a blood form given to them by their GP. Please ask your GP to direct you to one of the established out-of-hospital community clinics
- Ormskirk District General Hospital: The phlebotomy clinic runs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 8.30am and 12 midday from the Outpatients department. You must make ask your GP surgery to make an appointment before attending
- Patients under either hospital needing a blood test before a scheduled appointment should call 01695 656680 to arrange
- Patients attending a hospital clinic appointment at which bloods are requested should book a slot at the reception desk.
