Blood collection (phlebotomy)

A phlebotomist collects blood from patients who require diagnostic tests on their blood.  This requires a skilled procedure to take blood from a vein in the patients arm by using a fine needle and special collection tubes.

Our open access service is based in the Outpatients departments for clients aged 12 years and above:

 

  • Southport and Formby District General Hospital: This service operates Monday to Friday from the Outpatients department 9am-12.15pm and 2pm- 4.45pm. We close on bank holidays. Southport hospital cannot see patients who present with a blood form given to them by their GP

 

  • Ormskirk District General Hospital: This service operates between 8.30am and 11.30am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from the Outpatients department

 

We close on Wednesday and bank holidays. Ormskirk hospital can see patients who present with a blood form given to them by their GP or hospital consultant.
