Volunteering with the Trust

The Trust has about 250 volunteers supporting staff and patients across our hospitals and in community health services.

These include welcomers at main hospital entrances, volunteers helping in the wards and in the hospital gym. Community volunteers support the stop smoking team, psychology team and carry out patient surveys as well as helping at Trust events.

The Trust values its volunteers and recognises the make a difference they make on a daily basis to the lives to of our patients, families, visitors and staff.

How to volunteer
You need to be at least 18-years-old. We have no upper age limit, providing you are reasonably fit and well. We usually ask for commitment to four hours’ volunteering a week for a minimum period of six months. However, there may be circumstances where adjustments can be made to ensure volunteer recruitment meets the requirements of protected groups described in the Equality Act 2010.

If you progress with your application, the Trust will require two reference and arrange a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and, in some instances, an occupational health check. There will be no cost to you.

On appointment
Volunteers will be required to undertake an induction programme and will be issued with an ID badge. Travel expenses may be claimed at a public transport rate. Car users volunteering at a hospital site may request a parking permit.
