Right Arrow Nominate yourself now in Trust Council of Governors elections
07 March 2013 at 12:00

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is holding elections to its Council of Governors.

The Trust is applying for foundation trust status and the Council of Governors will be central to the governing of the Trust once it is authorised. The governors are the Trust’s link between its patients, local population, staff and stakeholders and will run in shadow format until authorisation.

Sir Ron Watson CBE, Chairman of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, said: “Membership is a great opportunity to become involved with your local Trust. Our governors will act as our main link between our members and the Trust as we move forwards towards authorisation as a foundation trust.”

The Council of Governors will have a range of responsibilities including appointing the chair and non-executive directors, receiving the annual report and annual accounts and having a say on the Trust’s future plans. The council is chaired by the chair of the Trust and is supported in carrying out its duties by the company secretary.

Governors must be over 18 and can only stand for election in the constituency in which they live. Eleven governors will be elected from the public membership (the number of governors per constituency is dependent on the size of the population):

• Southport 3
• Formby and Maghull 2
• Ormskirk and Western Parishes 2
• Skelmersdale and Southern Parishes 2
• Northern Parishes 1
• Rest of England and Wales 1
