Right Arrow Press Release - New Energy Centre at Ormskirk Hospital - PR/14/0405
23 June 2004 at 13:12
Residents living near to Ormskirk Hospital will notice a difference to the skyline soon as a new chimney appears on the hospital site alongside the hospital laundry. This event will mark the construction of a new Energy Centre at Ormskirk and District General Hospital, which will replace the old boilerhouse and chimney currently located much nearer to local houses on the western boundary of the site. The existing boilerhouse and chimney will eventually be demolished once the new facility is commissioned during early 2005.

The new development will provide significant environmental improvements through the use of state-of-the-art equipment to the latest European standards. One of the main areas of improvement will be the installation of a combined heat and power plant that will enable the efficient use of heat given off during the generation of electricity. This will be used to provide general heating and hot water within the hospital buildings.

Steve Taylor, Facilities Director at the Trust said, “The new centre will significantly reduce the environmental impact of hospital activities on the local community through the more efficient generation and use of energy”.

The centre is costing around £5.2 million and is being procured through a “Public/Private Partnership”. Building is due to start in July and is scheduled for completion a year later.
