Right Arrow Trust bids fond farewell to PPI Forum
26 March 2008 at 16:53
The last meeting of the Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) Forum took place this week because of the introduction next month of Local Involvement Networks (LINks).

The PPI Forum was formed at the beginning of 2004 following the demise of the Community Health Councils. The role of the Forums was to ensure local people had their say in decisions about local health services including hospitals.

Sir Ron Watson, Chair of the Trust said, “We are sorry the PPI forum has been disbanded as we have had a good working relationship with them and they have made a valuable contribution to the Trust. It is important to understand the views of our patients and wider public and the Forum has made a large contribution to that understanding. We now look forward to the new era of LINks and hope to have a similar relationship with that organisation. Our experience with the PPI and hopefully with LINks, will demonstrate our commitment to providing the best hospital services to our communities and positive support and constructive advice from Advisory groups is always welcomed.”

Local Involvement Networks (LINks) aim to give citizens a stronger voice in how their health and social care services are delivered. Run by local individuals and groups and independently supported - the role of LINks is to find out what people want, monitor local services and to use their powers to bring them to account. LINks will be established in most areas between April 2008 and September 2008. Each local authority (that provides social services) has been given funding and is under a legal duty to make contractual arrangements that enable LINk activities to take place.
