Please think of others and tell us if you cannot make your appointment - 10 July 2006
Between April 2005 and March 2006, the Trust made 58,524 new outpatient appointments and 158,203 follow-up appointments. Unfortunately, on 24,274 occasions patients chose not to turn up for their appointment without telling us. As a result, 24,274 appointments that could have been offered to other patients were wasted and those patients had to wait longer than they needed to see a doctor. (full story)

Compulsory redundancies - 06 July 2006
In a series of face-to-face briefings with staff the Trusts Chief Executive, Jonathan Parry, has announced that regrettably there will be a number of compulsory redundancies. (full story)

New era at Ormskirk as Independent Sector Treatment Centre to open by end of year - 04 July 2006
The Department of Health yesterday announced that it has chosen BUPA as its preferred provider to run a new Independent Sector Treatment Centre (ISTC) at Ormskirk & District General Hospital. This is a very positive move for the Trust, as it strengthens the position of Ormskirk & District General Hospital and will generate income for the Trust. (full story)

Pharmacy staff donate £1,900 to Southport Kidney Fund - 28 June 2006
In March this year, pharmacy staff from Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust held their annual “Oscars” night where they have a chance to let their hair down and raise some money for a local charity. This year they decided to raise money for the Southport Kidney Fund in memory of one of their colleagues Janet Whitfield who was tragically killed in a house fire last October. (full story)

Trust hosts 23rd Guttmann conference for UK Spinal Injury Units - 15 June 2006
Staff of the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport & Formby District General Hospital welcomed over 150 delegates to the 23rd Guttmann Multi-professional Conference. This established annual conference is attended by delegates from the other ten specialist Spinal Cord Injuries Centres across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. (full story)

Patient Environment Action Team say Trust is Excellent - 09 June 2006
In the latest Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) inspection for environment and food, both Ormskirk & District General Hospital and Southport & Formby District General Hospital received the top mark of Excellent for all categories. (full story)

Doing our bit for the environment - 06 June 2006
Monday 5th June was the United Nations World Environment Day 2006 and Graham Turton & Denise Alty from the facilities department of Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust set up a stand to show visitors some of the things it is doing to help the environment. (full story)

Order of Buffaloes donate £4,400 to cancer care - 19 May 2006
The Southport & District Province of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes have made a very generous donation of £4,464.49 towards cancer care at Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust. (full story)

Waiting times in Accident & Emergency best in SHA - 19 May 2006
Figures released this week show that over the whole of last year, Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust deals with more of its A&E patients within four hours than at any other hospital in Cheshire and Merseyside. Between April 2005 and March 2006 99.2% of patients were seen, treated and either admitted or discharged within four hours. (full story)
