Right Arrow Presentation of donation of Gideon Bibles - PR/24/0506
04 October 2005 at 09:08
The family of a patient who spent her last months on Bob Martin Ward, part of the Elderly Person Care Service run by Mersey Care NHS Trust at the Southport General Infirmary, donated 50 Gideon Bibles to Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

Charlotte Harrison was 95 years old when she died and had been a “Friend of The Gideons” for a number of years. The copies of the News Testament with Psalms were presented by her niece, Mrs Diane Cull on Wednesday 28th September in the Chapel at Southport & Formby District General Hospital.

Mrs Cull was joined by other members of the family including Miss Harrison’s youngest sister, Mrs E Atkinson, her brother-in-law Mr E Davies and Mrs A Thompson her niece. Mrs Cull said of her aunt, “She was a member of the Newsham Park Chapel in Liverpool and her faith was very important to her, as was the teaching of the Bible.

The care she received while she was in hospital could not be faulted, the staff were kindness itself.” The offering taken at Miss Harrison’s funeral service was used to purchase the Bibles. The “Friends of The Gideons” come from all walks of life and support the work of Gideons International throughout the UK and the rest of the world. Notes to Editors Photograph shows Mrs Diane Cull (standing centre) presenting the bibles to Mr Ian Redding of The Gideons.

Seated left to right are Mr E Davies, Mrs E Atkinson and Mrs A Thompson. Others are members of the family, and representatives of Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and Mersey Care NHS Trust.
