Right Arrow Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist takes up post
31 October 2011 at 14:44
Miss Shaireen Aleem has been appointed consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

Miss Aleem’s appointment follows the retirement earlier this year of long-serving consultant and former medical director Mr Mohsen Iskander.

She joined the Trust after working as a specialist senior registrar at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Her training over the past 11 years has been entirely with the NHS.

Miss Aleem specialises in all aspects of gynaecology but her main area of interest is urogynaecology, treating women who have incontinence of urine and/or prolapse of the womb, bladder or bowel. She also has an interest in perineal and bladder problems, especially after childbirth.

She joins an established and experienced urogynaecology team, including specialist nurse Linda Baldwin and Katie Mann, a specialist physiotherapist who runs the pelvic floor clinic.

“I am thrilled to be joining such an enthusiastic, hard working and dedicated team because the importance of the services we offer cannot be underestimated,” said Miss Aleem.

She is also starting a new service for women to be seen post-natally who have had problems with their perineum following childbirth, such as third degree tear.

Miss Aleem, who lives in Wirral and is married with two children, aged five and four, added: “I have been made to feel very welcome here and I am delighted to be working for the women of Southport and Ormskirk.”
