Right Arrow Public invited to have say on changing health care
18 February 2011 at 16:05
Health care in north Sefton and West Lancashire is changing.

From April 1st Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust becomes responsible for many of the health services for adults currently provided by the local primary care trusts, NHS Sefton and NHS Central Lancashire.

Among other services this will include district nursing, continence services, management of conditions requiring long-term care (e.g. diabetes), phlebotomy (blood-taking) and the disabled blue badge scheme.

The trust would like patients, their families and members of the community to add their voices and ideas to how it might develop this new way of working and is organising a series of public meetings in early March. They will be hosted by Jonathan Parry (right), the trust’s Chief Executive.

He will explain in greater detail the trust’s ambitions for local health care, listen to people’s ideas and answer any questions they may have.

By removing organisational barriers between hospital and community health care, the trust expects that over time patients will get:

• Faster access to treatment
• Better continuity of care as clinical teams start working better together between hospital and the community
• An improved experience of health care where treatment, when appropriate, is offered closer to home or in the home

These changes will also allow the trust to focus together on some of the serious health problems that people in the area live with, such as diabetes and heart disease.

The dates for the three meetings, which will be attended by senior officers from all three trusts, are:

Ormskirk – Tuesday 1st March
Langham Hall, Derby Street
Ormskirk, L39 2DE
6pm to 7.30pm

Skelmersdale – Thursday 3rd March
The Greenhill, Beech Close
Skelmersdale, WN8 8DL
2pm to 3.30pm

Southport – Wednesday 9th March
Family Life Centre, Ash Street
Southport, PR8 6JH
6pm to 7.30pm
