Right Arrow Number of cases of Clostridium difficile fall
28 October 2008 at 15:12
The latest figures for Clostridium difficile show that patients choosing Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust will be choosing the best performing general hospital in the North West.

In the quarter April to June 2008 the number of cases at the Trust fell from 45 to 37; a reduction of 18% on the previous quarter. This is by far the lowest in the Northwest and consolidates our position within the top ten nationally. These figures come less than a month after the announcement that we had no cases of MRSA Bacteraemia for the second quarter in succession and only a week after we have been awarded a rating of ‘Excellent’ for the quality of our services by the Healthcare Commission.

“Once again this is fabulous news for our patients and testament to the excellent work being done by all our staff under the guidance of the infection prevention and control team,” commented Geraldine Boocock, Director of Infection Control. “However, we are by no means complacent and I still want to continue to ask all our visitors to ensure they wash their hands whenever they enter or leave the wards.
