Right Arrow Press Release - Conference to share experience with twinned Hospital from Lindesberg, Sweden - PR/05/0405
29 April 2004 at 11:31
Following the ground-breaking twinning initiative between Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and Lindesberg Hospital in Sweden last October, a two day conference discussing Learning and Partnership Working was held at Hurlston Hall Golf Club on 19 and 20 April. It was attended by around 60 delegates, 25 of whom came from Sweden. Those attending from Sweden include nursing staff, health service managers, trade union representatives, learning representatives and local councillors.

Keith Waterhouse, the Trust’s Learning Resources Centre Manager explained the aim of the conference; “It was a very successful conference. We were able to explain how we have successfully formed a working partnership with a number of parties including staff representatives, NHS University, NHS Estates, TUC Learning services and local colleges. We discussed the various learning initiatives that we are both involved in, including staff development and recruitment and had an opportunity to share our experiences. We hope to build on this positive beginning of the twinning relationship with different events in the future.”

Speakers at the conference included regional and national union representatives, academic researchers both from the UK and Sweden, representatives from the Department of health and representatives from the NHS University.

This was the first conference since the twinning arrangement was formalised in October 2003. Others are planned for the future.

The first exchange of staff took place earlier this month with three care assistants from Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust going to work for a week at Lindesberg hospital Sweden also the first staff from Sweden will be with us the week starting 19th April.
