News Headline Trust again asks for co-operation with smoking policy - 27/08/2009
Once again, Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is asking patients and visitors to co-operate with its request that they do not smoke on its premises. Since the Trust declared it was going Smokefree in January 2006, most people who smoke have abided by the request to not to do so in the buildings or grounds of both Ormskirk and Southport hospitals. However, there are a small number of people, both patients and visitors who insist on smoking in the grounds, mainly outside the entrances. (full story)

For someone suffering a heart attack the speed with which they can get access to a particular drug known as thrombolytic treatment can literally be a matter of life and death. Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is one of only three Trusts in the country who were able to give this treatment to every patient who needed it within the target time of 30 minutes after arriving at hospital. News Headline Minor Injuries Unit temporarily relocates while refurbishment gets underway - 17/06/2009
Work gets underway later this month to transform part of Ormskirk & District General Hospital into a new £3million health centre.

The refurbishments will make way for the state-of-the-art Primary Care Access Centre, which is due to open towards the end of 2009 as part of NHS Central Lancashire’s drive to improve health and healthcare. It will offer brand new services, giving people new facilities on their doorstep which will increase access to treatment and advice.

News Headline Free long-term parking at hospitals - 27/05/2009

Following the introduction of the new car parking system at both Southport and Ormskirk hospitals a number of unforeseen issues have a risen which we have either resolved or are in the process of resolving.

However, one issue that has been raised is the cost for anyone who has to attend the hospital several times a week over a prolonged period of time. Although we offer a weekly parking permit for £10 (plus a £5 deposit) which can offer considerable savings, this can still be expensive over a long time.
